After young Laine McAlister is assaulted in her apartment complex's stairwell, Detectives Olivia Benson and Eliot Stabler visit her in the hospital, where they find her visibly traumatized and nursing a serious cut on her hand. A tense interaction with a man she identifies as her boyfriend raises their doubts, leading them to suspect that Laine might have fabricated the attack for attention. Their concerns deepen when she hesitates to mention there was a witness. As the situation escalates, Benson and Stabler rush to locate the eyewitness and secure a statement before time runs out.
