A runaway convict unleashes chaos in the city, threatening further devastation unless Hammer consents to face him in a classic western duel. This convict, John Kogan, is not only Hammer's childhood adversary but also a former colleague from the police force. Kogan is the only person known to be quicker on the draw than Hammer, a detail that Sledge is keenly aware of.
