In the exciting first episode, parapsychologist Dr. Sara Beckman experiments with a device designed to summon demons, and it works far too effectively. Enter Raphael Cain, a mysterious figure who intervenes to save her, but in a twist of fate, Sara accidentally shoots him. Goodwin quickly takes Raphael away, but he needs to use Sara's car and apartment to give him time to recuperate. Meanwhile, the demons, led by Mallos and his aide Vashista, perceive Beckman's invention as a danger and set out to find her. While Raphael manages to fend them off, he must pause to help Sara, leading to Goodwin's capture by the demonic pair.
