Eric attempts to support Chandler after the young minister discovers that his father is terminally ill with lung cancer, but Chandler rebuffs Eric's efforts and distances himself. Meanwhile, Lucy agrees to go out with Chandler's tattooed, chain-smoking brother Sid in a bid to provoke Kevin into proposing to her. In another storyline, Annie is taken aback when she discovers a pack of cigarettes hidden in Simon's room. Additionally, Ruthie's friend Peter pleads with her to keep his smoking habit a secret from his mother.
