A rookie agent and his canine companion stumble upon an 18-wheeler loaded with over 1,000 pounds of hidden marijuana. At the same time, a group of undocumented migrants leads agents on a lengthy four-hour pursuit. During the chaos, an Ecuadorian woman and her young daughter are found in dire conditions—injured, dehydrated, and starving—after being deserted by smugglers in the unforgiving landscape. They face the threat of deportation unless the mother can demonstrate a valid fear for their safety if they return to their homeland.
