Priscilla White, a typist from Liverpool, aspires to leave her mundane office job behind and pursue a career in singing. Her opportunity seems to arise when she encounters Bobby Willis, who presents himself as a songwriter in the music scene. However, her excitement wanes when she learns that his flashy car is rented and that he actually works at a bakery. Despite this rocky beginning, Cilla decides to let him manage her. But as her friends, the Beatles, assist her in securing an audition with the real music mogul Brian Epstein, the future of their partnership hangs in the balance.
