In the probe into the overdose of a rock band vocalist found with high levels of cocaine and heroin, detectives interview a former boyfriend who was also a bitter ex-bandmate of her deceased husband. Meanwhile, the prosecutors face challenges from a retired detective, a former partner of Briscoe's, who has turned to writing and employs unorthodox research methods that put him under suspicion as well.
