Outside of Asia, no mountain surpasses 7000 meters, yet the Himalayas boast over 100 peaks that soar more than 200 meters above that mark, establishing them as the highest mountain range on Earth. In this harsh landscape where the land meets the sky, fierce winds, frigid temperatures, and thin air challenge all forms of life. Surprisingly, this vast geological marvel sustains one of the planet's richest and most varied ecosystems, including humans. While the rugged heights of the Himalayas provide little shelter, over a billion individuals in India depend on these mountains for their very existence.
