As the New Year dawns, urgent repairs are required at the farm. The team returns to their DIY roots, enlisting the assistance of the woodsman, blacksmith, and basket maker. Ruth experiments with old-fashioned potions and healing remedies. However, when pests threaten the wheat harvest, Alex and Peter embark on a Victorian-style pheasant hunt for pest control. Meanwhile, Alex teams up with a group of Victorian poachers to catch rabbits. With spring nearing, the farm eagerly anticipates the arrival of its first baby animals.
