Sheryl Ruthven, a preacher who sees herself as a prophet, charms her followers into obedience and uses them to exact revenge on her enemies. As her ideologies become more outlandish, she insists that her congregation take in cats, convinced that these creatures will protect them during the coming apocalypse. Her control leads her followers into deep isolation, financial hardship, and strange rituals, fracturing families and taking advantage of their loyalty—all while she dangles the hope of salvation before them.
