Hardcastle is determined to dig into the background of a woman named Tina Grey. When he approaches the police for assistance, Captain Filapiano, who has a strong dislike for Hardcastle, promptly tells him to leave. Undeterred, Hardcastle instructs McCormick to get closer to Tina. However, their growing connection draws the attention of a dangerously jealous gangster named Joe Beiber, who has been dating Tina. In a fit of rage, he kidnaps both of them.
