Britain's Greatest Bridges (2016)

S1E1 The Forth Rail Bridge

Oct 14, 2016 Season 1 Episode 1 Documentary

Engineer Rob Bell embarks on an exploration to uncover the design and construction stories behind six of Britain’s most breathtaking bridges. Among them is the Forth Rail Bridge, finished in 1890, which now sees about 200 trains travel across it daily. This remarkable structure stands as the last of the great Victorian engineering feats and has become an iconic representation of Scotland, alongside landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and symbols like bagpipes and kilts. However, Rob discovers that this magnificent bridge was a response to the tragic Tay Bridge disaster of 1879, which resulted in 73 fatalities linked to its construction and aftermath.
