In the wake of a devastating event in Neptune, California, the local sheriff makes a hasty decision, prompting Veronica to step in and assist a mourning family member in discounting suicide as a factor in the tragedy. At the same time, Wallace steps up to help Jackie Cook, a bold and charming transfer student and daughter of baseball star Terrence Cook, as she seeks to find out who vandalized her car in the school parking lot. Meanwhile, mayoral hopeful Woody Goodman approaches Keith with the idea of him running for sheriff.
