While stationed in Afghanistan, Nick Calshaw tries to reach his family, but his voicemail leaves them anxious about his well-being. Soon after, two military officers arrive to inform them that he has been injured in an accident. To welcome him back, his family organizes a surprise celebration, but they are taken aback by the severity of his wounds. Struggling to cope, Nick seeks comfort in his girlfriend Gemma, but he finds himself sinking deeper into a state of despair and isolation.
