During the journey back to Deep Space 12 with the Excelsior's new Security Chief, Lieutenant Luko, Lefler and her crew are captured by pirates from the Orion Syndicate. The criminals seek Lefler's expertise to extract a volatile explosive byproduct of warp engines from an abandoned Starfleet ship.
