Bilko misplaces the platoon’s welfare funds on a horse, only to discover that the animal has a slight leg injury. With the last of the platoon's money, he decides to purchase the horse and must care for it on the base until it recovers and is ready to race. Just as he juggles this new responsibility, a general unexpectedly arrives for a surprise inspection.
