Duan pan zi de gu niang (1981)

Fanzi, a waitress at a restaurant, feels out of place in her job and often escapes into her daydreams. She imagines a future where she can shed her "unprofitable waitress uniform" to become both a singer and a medical professional. However, reality continually crushes her dreams, leaving her increasingly disheartened and frustrated, which she takes out on her customers. Concerned for her well-being, her childhood friend Zhang Zhi, a university student, frequently visits to support her, reminding her that every job serves a purpose and is valuable in its own right.
