Disintegration Line #2 showcases the impact of the American Bauhaus movement in Chicago, spearheaded by Lazlo Moholy-Nagy in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The film's unique aesthetic arises from shocking ten-foot strips of raw black and white film into cold water, fixer, hot water, and developer, with the process repeated multiple times. Lawrence Janiak then crafted these strips into what he termed "interesting sequences," utilizing optical printing techniques combined with various colored gels. Each hue is meticulously labeled and manipulated at different speeds, creating a vibrant visual experience that challenges conventional filmmaking.
